In the US, Docketwise (Pro plan and above), INSZoom (desktop add-on), eImmigration (premium Chrome extension) and MyCase’s Docketwise-powered add-on can e-file with USCIS, and also DOL and DOS. They work by filling the government website while you are signed in, not through a USCIS API; Clio does not file with USCIS. In Canada, IRCC publishes no submission API, so every application is submitted in IRCC’s portals. Canadian software helps by filling barcode PDFs, autofilling the portal (CaseEasy add-on) and managing checklists.
- Docketwise, INSZoom, eImmigration and MyCase’s immigration add-on e-file with USCIS, DOL and DOS; Clio does not file with USCIS.
- US e-filing tools automate the government website while you are signed in; none is described as a USCIS API.
- IRCC publishes no API for third-party submission, so Canadian applications are submitted in IRCC’s portals.
- Canadian software helps with barcode PDF preparation, portal autofill (CaseEasy, from $25/case) and checklists.
- ImmiPractice offers IRCC PDF autofill but no e-filing or portal autofill.
The short answer
“E-filing” means something different on each side of the border. US immigration software can push a completed form into the USCIS, Department of Labor (DOL) or Department of State (DOS) online systems for you. In Canada, no software submits applications to IRCC: you submit in IRCC’s own portals, and software prepares what goes in. If you practise in Canada, judge vendors on form preparation and portal assistance, not on an e-filing checkbox.

How US e-filing works with USCIS
USCIS lets attorneys and accredited representatives file some forms online from their own USCIS online account (USCIS). Every online filing includes Form G-28, and USCIS says you must complete and submit a new G-28 for each client case. The client reviews and signs in their own USCIS account using a one-time passcode; the representative then pays and submits. Only some forms can be filed online (USCIS list).
The USCIS page does not mention third-party software or an API. The vendor tools below are best understood as automation: they take the data you already entered and fill the government website while you are signed in, saving retyping. None is described by its vendor as a USCIS API.
US vendors, one by one
Docketwise. E-filing is “built right into Smart Forms” on the Pro and Advanced plans only (Docketwise help). Supported: USCIS I-129 (with optional I-907), I-130, I-765, N-400 and H-1B registration, each with G-28; DOL ETA-9035/9035E and ETA-9141; DOS DS-160 and DS-260. The vendor pricing page shows Pro at $100 or $120 per user per month depending on the billing toggle (currency not named).
INSZoom. A desktop add-on fills government web forms “field by field” and can save myUSCIS credentials (Mitratech help). USCIS forms listed include H-1B registration, I-129, I-130, I-90, I-907 (only with I-129), N-336, N-400, N-565, N-600 and N-600K; DOL and DOS forms are also supported. Mitratech does not publish prices.
eImmigration. The “eimmigration e-Filer” Chrome extension e-files completed forms “to USCIS, DOS & DOL” (Chrome Web Store); the listing does not name specific forms. It is a premium feature: included in the Complete plan or added at $15 per feature per user per month (eImmigration pricing).
MyCase. Its immigration add-on, “powered by Docketwise”, includes e-filing to USCIS, DOL FLAG and DOS CEAC (MyCase). The add-on price is not published.
Clio. Clio populates supported USCIS forms such as G-28, I-130, I-765 and G-1145, but says it “doesn’t submit filings to USCIS or the immigration courts” (Clio). It points to integrations with Docketwise and Prima.Law for complex immigration forms.
Canada: no public IRCC submission API
IRCC does not publish an API for third-party software to submit applications. Submission happens through IRCC’s own portals: the Authorized Paid Representatives (APR) Portal, the Permanent Residence (PR) Portal and the IRCC Portal for representatives, signed in with GCKey or Sign-In Partner (IRCC). We found no IRCC statement either allowing or prohibiting third-party tools — only no published API.
So a Canadian vendor that says “e-filing” usually means one of three things:
- Barcode PDF preparation. The software fills IRCC PDF forms (IMM 5257, IMM 0008, IMM 5669 and others) from the client file so the 2D barcodes validate in Adobe Reader. You then upload them in the portal. INSZoom, Officio, immiBoard, CaseEasy and ImmiPractice all prepare IRCC forms in some form.
- Portal autofill. Browser-side assistance that types file data into the IRCC portal’s online forms while you are signed in. CaseEasy sells this as “IRCC portal autofill”, pay-as-you-go from $25 per case (CaseEasy pricing). You still review and submit.
- Checklists and packaging. Document checklists per application type, client uploads through a portal, and naming and sizing files for upload.
What to ask any vendor about e-filing
- Which government systems and which form numbers are supported today?
- Which plan includes it, and is it priced per user, per feature or per case?
- Does it run in a browser extension, a desktop add-on or inside the web app?
- How are government credentials handled — stored, or entered each time?
- How quickly is the tool updated when a government form or website changes?
Where ImmiPractice fits
ImmiPractice does not e-file anywhere: it has no USCIS forms and no IRCC portal autofill. What it does is IRCC PDF autofill for forms such as IMM 5257, IMM 0008, IMM 5669 and IMM 1294, filled from the client record and portal answers, with 2D barcodes that still validate in Adobe, family details reused across applications and updates within 72 hours of an IRCC revision. You download the forms, validate them and submit in IRCC’s portal. If you want portal autofill, CaseEasy offers it; if you file mainly with USCIS, Docketwise, INSZoom or eImmigration fit better — see Docketwise alternatives.
