For most small and mid-sized US immigration law firms, Docketwise is the better choice: published per-user plans, a client portal and time tracking on every plan, and a lead CRM from Pro. INSZoom (Mitratech) is the better fit for corporate immigration: law firms and HR teams handling many employer-sponsored cases, with HR portals, forms for 90+ countries and quote-based enterprise pricing. Neither is built mainly for Canadian IRCC work.
- Docketwise suits most small and mid-sized US immigration law firms; INSZoom suits corporate immigration at volume.
- Client management: Docketwise wins for most firms; INSZoom wins when HR teams need their own portal.
- Time tracking: Docketwise includes it on every plan; INSZoom ties timers and per-manager rates to invoices.
- Docketwise publishes prices; INSZoom is quote-only.
- Neither is built mainly for Canadian IRCC practice.
Docketwise vs INSZoom: who is each one for?
Short answer: choose Docketwise if you are a small or mid-sized US immigration law firm that mostly handles family, humanitarian and individual employment cases. Choose INSZoom if your work is corporate immigration at volume: many employees per employer, HR contacts who need their own portal, and cases in several countries.
Docketwise was founded in 2016 by lawyers Jeremy Peskin and James Pittman. MyCase bought it in May 2022, AffiniPay (the parent of LawPay) bought MyCase in June 2022, and AffiniPay rebranded as 8am in August 2025. The product is now called “8am DocketWise” (LawNext, Docketwise).
INSZoom traces back to 1999, when founder Umesh Vaidyamath launched what Mitratech calls the first cloud-based software company in the immigration industry. Mitratech announced its acquisition on November 10, 2020 (Mitratech press release). Mitratech says it serves everyone from solo practitioners to Fortune 500 global mobility and HR teams (INSZoom product page). For a full profile, see What is INSZoom?

Which is better for client management, Docketwise or INSZoom?
Verdict: Docketwise is better for client management for most immigration law firms. It documents the whole path from lead to client on its pricing page, includes the client portal on every plan and publishes which plan unlocks what. INSZoom is better only when your “client” is a corporation whose HR team needs its own access to many employee cases.
Docketwise’s Basic plan includes the client portal, multilingual intake questionnaires, document requests and case and priority date tracking. Pro adds CRM/lead management, two-way text messaging, bulk messaging, e-signatures and an HR portal (pricing). The CRM page lists an embeddable website form, a chatbot that collects leads through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and SMS, a leads dashboard, reminders and lead assignment (CRM features).
INSZoom’s strength is the corporate side. Its Enterprise tier offers a customized HR portal for multiple corporate contacts, templated emails and reminders, and an “Advance Case Request” feature so an employer can start a case (product page). Mitratech’s brochure describes portals for applicants, HR professionals and business users. A digital questionnaire and forms library is part of the product.
Docketwise pros for client management
- Client portal, questionnaires and document requests on every plan.
- Questionnaires in several languages, including Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi and Chinese.
- Documented lead CRM with web form, chatbot and lead reports (Pro).
- Gmail and Outlook email integrations, plus two-way Google and Outlook calendar sync.
Docketwise cons for client management
- CRM, text messaging and the HR portal require Pro or above.
- Texting costs $20 per 1,000 outgoing messages after the first 100, and clients cannot start a text conversation (help centre).
- Some Capterra reviewers report duplicate client profiles and a search that struggles with misspelled names.
INSZoom pros for client management
- HR portal access for multiple corporate contacts, built for employer clients.
- Employers can request new cases themselves.
- Large questionnaire and forms library (Mitratech cited 2,000+ forms and questionnaires in 2020).
- Two-way calendar sync with Office 365 Exchange.
INSZoom cons for client management
- The product page does not describe a lead or intake CRM; capabilities are not published plan by plan.
- The richer HR portal is described as an Enterprise feature.
- Lower ease-of-use scores on G2 (6.3 for ease of use and support, 5.0 for setup), from a small number of reviews.
Which is better for time tracking, Docketwise or INSZoom?
Verdict: Docketwise is better for time tracking for most immigration firms, because it is included on every plan and flows straight into invoices. INSZoom is the better choice only if you bill hourly at different rates per case manager inside a larger corporate setup. Neither is a full timekeeping system; if most of your revenue is hourly, a general practice management tool will do more.
Docketwise lists “Calendaring & Time Tracking” from Basic, and says time can be billed alongside flat-fee charges (Docketwise). Time entries are imported into invoices under “Professional Services,” and clients can pay by card or eCheck through LawPay (help centre). The QuickBooks Online integration is on Pro and above.
INSZoom’s billing module lets you link timer records to invoices and set hourly rates per case manager, used with timers in the Forms workspace. It also offers fee templates, multi-case invoices, installment plans and online payments (INSZoom billing help). A standalone timesheet module or LEDES-style legal billing is not described publicly.
Docketwise pros for time tracking
- Included on every plan, starting with Basic.
- Time entries drop into invoices, alongside flat fees.
- LawPay card and eCheck payments, and QuickBooks Online sync on Pro.
Docketwise cons for time tracking
- Timers are not mentioned on the invoices page; reporting depth is not documented.
- QuickBooks needs Pro; QuickBooks Desktop is not supported.
INSZoom pros for time tracking
- Timers linked to invoices, with hourly rates per case manager.
- Multi-case invoices, which suit employers with many employee cases.
- Integrations with QuickBooks Online, LawPay and Authorize.net.
INSZoom cons for time tracking
- No public description of timesheets, approval workflows or LEDES billing.
- Which package includes billing is not published; you need a quote.
Forms, e-filing and Canadian coverage
Both products are built around US forms. Docketwise e-files USCIS forms such as the I-130, I-765, I-129 and N-400, CEAC’s DS-160 and DS-260, and DOL labour forms on Pro and above (Docketwise Pro). IRCC forms are not stated publicly.
INSZoom e-files through a desktop add-on that fills USCIS and other government web forms field by field (e-filing add-on). It is the only one of the two that documents Canadian forms: Mitratech says its library covers 90+ countries with updates within 48 hours of release, mentions federal and PNP forms (using the older “CIC” name) and has a help article on Canada barcode forms. Submission to IRCC portals is not described. For a wider view, see immigration e-filing software compared.
Pricing
Docketwise publishes its plans. As checked in October 2026, the vendor page shows Pro at $100 or $120 and Advanced at $120 or $140 per user per month, depending on the yearly or monthly toggle, and does not display a Basic price; Capterra lists Basic at $90. Docketwise mentions a 7-day free trial. INSZoom does not publish prices. Mitratech describes a “right-sized, right-priced solution,” and figures on third-party sites ($50 to $180 per user per month) are undated. Ask the vendor for a written quote.
Where ImmiPractice fits
If your practice files with IRCC rather than USCIS, neither product is built around your work. ImmiPractice is an immigration CRM for Canadian practices: it fills IRCC PDF forms such as the IMM 5257 and IMM 0008 from the client record, with forms updated within 72 hours of an IRCC revision, and data hosted in Canada. It costs CA$89 per month for unlimited users. It has limits: no time tracking, no USCIS forms, no e-filing (you submit through IRCC portals) and no trust accounting. See ImmiPractice vs INSZoom and ImmiPractice vs Docketwise.
